Mela

Preston Mela has been an annual event on the city’s cultural calendar since 1997. It is a popular, family friendly celebration, promoting South Asian arts, crafts, food and traditions, which engages with the wider population, attracting a cross-cultural audience. The potential audience for the Mela is ‘primed’ for the event by engagement in pre-event workshop activities which are designed to raise awareness and understanding of South Asian influences on the daily living of the city.

 Mela 08

Bluestreak Arts took part in Preston Mela 2008 by delivering a workshop program around banner making and kite making to form part of a parade around the Mela event site of 2008.

Mela 09

Bluestreak got involved with Mela 09 by delivering workshop programs in multiple schools creating windmills that were planted at the Mela event site of 2009. The windmills were planted at the community stage and around the doorways of the main marquee.

Mela 2010

Bluestreak arts has become part of Mela once again for their 2010 festival. This year Bluestreak are bringing in a number of professional artists from across the region including Garth Gratrix, Manasamitra and Sara Hicks. Bluestreak are also bringing in Professional Indian Textile Artist Ranbir Kaur.
These artists will deliver a wide range of different art workshops and master classes each with their own outcomes to celebrate Preston's Mela 2010 event.
